Technical Notes

Surface Preparation: Concrete shall be in place for 7 days (minimum) and shall be dry. Surface shall have a smooth finish (broom finish is not acceptable) and be free of voids, spalled areas, sharp protrusions, loose aggregate and form release agents. Curing agents containing wax, oil or pigment must not be used. Forms should be removed as quickly as possible.

In the event of rain, concrete must be allowed to dry before primer is applied.

Temperature: For optimum results, Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N should be applied when air and surface temperatures are above 40°F.

Terminations: Install a 1 inch Sealant cant into the inside corner of the curb or the bridge parapet and the deck. Allow sealant cant to cure overnight. Apply flashing at curbs to a height just below the surface of the asphaltic overlayment and extend the flashing strip 6 inches onto the horizontal deck surface. For parking deck structures with two section drains, install sheet 6 inches in all directions around drain, using care not to block weep holes. Apply final sheet over the flashing and seal edges with mastic.

Joints and Cracks: Apply primer and allow to become dry. Apply a 12 inch wide to 18 inch wide strip of Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N Pre-Pave Membrane, centered over all cracks and sealed joints. Steel finger joints and other expansion joints should be placed at the level of the asphalt concrete overlayment.

Priming: Stir primer thoroughly. Apply by spray or with a long nap roller to all concrete surfaces in an even coat at 250 to 300 sq. ft. per gallon. At 75°F, allow primer to dry 1 hour minimum, 8 hours maximum. Primer has a satisfactory cure when surface is tacky, but does not transfer when touched. An asphalt cut-back material used as a primer for the overlayment may be used in lieu of an asphalt base primer if it is allowed to cure overnight. Metal surfaces do not require primer, however, metal surfaces must be clean, dry and free of old paint, oil, grease, rust or other contamination.

Application: Apply Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N Pre-Pave Membrane from low to high point, in a shingle fashion so that laps will shed water. Overlap all edges at least 2 inches, placed such that overlaps are in the direction of the paving. End laps shall be staggered. Place sheet membrane carefully so as to avoid wrinkles and fish-mouths. Immediately after installation, roll with a lawn roller, wrapped with indoor/outdoor carpet or similar roller.

Repairs: Following application, inspect all membrane for tears, punctures, fish-mouths, air bubbles or voids due to misalignment at seams. Remove damaged membrane. Prime exposed concrete and allow primer to dry. Apply a new section of Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N Pre-Pave Membrane to primed concrete, extending onto adhered membrane 6 inches on all sides. Firmly press repair section to ensure a good seal. Apply mastic to terminating edges of patch.

Slit fish-mouths and overlap the edges. Place a section of Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N Pre-Pave Membrane over the repair and extend 6 inches in all directions. Firmly press repair section to ensure a good seal. Apply mastic to the terminating edges of patch.

Apply Overlayment: Prior to applying asphaltic overlayment, spray anionic asphalt emulsion (or equal) tack coat over mat. Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N Pre-Pave Membrane should be covered over with asphaltic overlayment as soon as possible. The temperature of the asphaltic overlayment at the point of laydown shall be 275°F minimum, 300°F maximum. Asphaltic overlayment shall be compacted to a minimum of 1 inch thick.

Asphaltic overlayment or tack coat must not be applied if the Thrace-LINQ TAC 711N Pre-Pave Membrane is wet (ie: rain, etc.).

Flat track or pneumatic tire equipment may be used, however flat track equipment is preferred. Equipment must be continuously inspected to ensure tracks are free of burrs, stones or sharp projections which could damage the membrane.
